Today I was thinking about the scriptures and how well they pertain to our day, on every page. I like how Nephi says, we need to liken the scriptures to us. It is so true and easy to do. The more I read the Book of Mormon the more I realize the relevance to our day, and its truthfulness. When the prophets, and apostles speak of learning something new each day either in scripture or temple. I often wondered how that could be. But now I am realizing the concept of, "line upon line, and precept upon precept."
It is like being in school, you begin with a foundation, say, in math. You start with a simple concept of number recognition and counting. Then you move on the the importance of one-to-one ratio, then you start adding and subtracting, and then place values, you increase addition and subtraction knowledge by using larger number which require carrying over. Then you move on the multiplication and division, fractions, number lines, algerbra, etc.
That is how is starts first you read and discover the truthfulness. Then the next time you read, you discover something new that pertains to you in your life there. As you continue reading, the knowledge you have gets built upon and it increases. Your mind expands and knowledge grows, and every time you read there is a new discovery waiting to unveil itself to you. I cannot count the number of times I have read the Book of Mormon, but I know it isn't enough. I am trying to read it at least once a year. And it is such a blessing in my life.
One thing I am discovering it that like math, if you do not continue to practice (read) you lose or forget precious truths. It is a skill, and it has to be in constant use in order for it to be honed and loved. If it is misused it is taken away. Lost, and then you must start from the beginning again.
I couldn't imagine trying to achieve my goal, without having something worthy of reading. I need the spiritual enlightenment, and I need the strength that I receive from its pages. I wouldn't be as successful, I don't think, without it.
